On the 17 June, representative of Cliffs of Sanctuary were privileged to present the University of Kent with the award of “University of Sanctuary”. In their assessment, Cliffs of Sanctuary were impressed with the array of actions taken by the University to become a welcoming place for sanctuary seeking individuals. These include:
Scholarship and welfare support which empowers sanctuary seekers to
continue their studies at KU;
Engagement with sanctuary/migration issues in KU research themes
and taught courses;
The KU Law Clinic and its pro bono work on behalf of sanctuary-seeking persons
Support and exchanges with Kherson University in Ukraine;
Support for academics at risk, particularly in Syria;
Links to the wider community here at home, in the arts, music and theatre
